Who are the Penndel Wildcats?
The Penndel Wildcats play Pop Warner Little Scholars football & cheerleading. While Pop Warner is the national program the Wildcats participate in, we are a part of the Bux- Mont Youth Football League which is composed of 16 associations from the Bucks and Montgomery County areas. The Bux-Mont League is a very competitive football league and one of the largest and well respected throughout Pop Warner. The Bux-Mont flag football program is the largest within Pop Warner.

The Wildcats Cheerleading competition squads are the sister squads to the field girls, but are a separate entity from football cheerleading. If your child participates in the competition program they must cheer on a field cheer team. You can find out more about the National Champion Penndel Wildcats competition program at www.wildcatscheerleading.com .

How/when can I register my child for football or cheerleading?
The Penndel Wildcats holds football & cheerleading registrations from late April until early June. We will accept late registrations, but hope that this is the exception. In the future we may charge late fees for late registrations as equipment orders prior to June 1 are discounted. Please make one of our scheduled registrations to assure your child’s placement on a team. The Penndel program is growing and to make sure your child gets quality playing time and coaching, we will limit our squad sizes going forward.

We will hold at least 2 walk-in registrations as well as make registration available online through the www.penndelwildcats.com website. You can find all required forms and instruction on how to register on our website under the Football / Registration Information link. Please download the required forms from the website and bring them completed and signed to our walk-in registrations to help speed up the process.

How much does football or cheerleading cost?
Penndel football & cheerleading continues to be one of the lowest priced programs in the Bux-Mont League. We have not raised our sports fee in at least 7 years. Here’s an explanation of the cost:

• A Penndel Wildcats Athletic Association membership for the family is $25. This fee is paid once during a calendar year and allows any child(ren) in the family to play any of our four sports.
• The sports fee for flag football is $65.
• The sports fee for tackle football and all cheerleading squads is $90.
• We also have a mandatory fundraiser of calendar sales for a daily lottery which is $40. You pay the money up front and the calendars are yours to hold onto or sell.
• We also collect a check from each family that goes towards snack stand duty. When a family member fulfills their snack stand obligation they are reimbursed the $50.
• Halftime snacks for football players or hair bows for cheerleaders. This is $10 per child.

We ask for all fees up front at registration. This can get expensive, especially for families with a few children in the program, but it works out very well for everyone involved. We don’t have to bother our members for money the rest of the year! If you know the total cost of registration is going to be a burden, please contact the VP of your sport to find out about payment arrangements. Finances should never keep a child from becoming a Penndel Wildcats.

When are practices?
Practices typically begin August 1 at Poplar Park in Parkland or Carl Sandburg Middle School. The first week of practice is without equipment for mandatory conditioning. Typically the tackle teams will practice Monday through Thursday during August. The flag teams generally practice 2-3 times per week during that same period. Around the beginning of school and after our field maintenance day we will move the majority of our practices to the Penndel Wildcats field at the corner of Hulmeville Road and Bellevue Avenue in Penndel. At this time we generally cut back on practice by one day and prepare for opening weekend.

When are games?
Home games are played at the Penndel field. We don’t get our season schedule from the Bux-Mont League until mid August. While the majority of our games on Saturdays, we do play Friday night and Sunday games. Away games are played throughout Bux-Mont. If you visit the www.bux-mont.com website or the Directions link on the Penndel website, you will see that we do travel up to an hour to some games. By the 2006 season there may be as many as 5 Bux-Mont associations less than 30 minutes from Penndel, so we are gaining more local associations.

How can I help?
We are always looking for volunteers. We can't get enough of them! You can contact any board member or the VP of each sport and offer your help. We won’t turn any members in good standing down! All members are invited to attend our general membership board meetings on the second Monday of each month in the upstairs of our clubhouse at 7:00 PM. Volunteers that need to be on the field and in contact with the children need to be rostered and have a PA State Police background check. We will post of list of volunteer opportunities on the website and in our parent’s information packet.

Why is there so much paperwork?
We play under the rules of Pop Warner Little Scholars. It is a national program and the only one that includes scholastics requirements. Each document we require serves a purpose to protect your child and make sure participants are living up to the requirements. It should take 10 minutes to round up the required paperwork for a participant. Volunteers then go through the thousands of pieces of paperwork a few times to make sure all is in order. Please bear with us when we ask that all your paperwork is handed in. We have to sort through this stuff all summer long.

Why are you asking us to sign up so early?
Bux-Mont and Pop Warner require that each association start creating preliminary rosters at the May League Meeting. Penndel starts registration every year in mid-April when most of Bux-Mont is already finished with sign-ups. We need to finalize our rosters for Pop Warner by July 1. This means that all of that paperwork has to be gone through and validated. We also receive discounts on any equipment purchases if we place equipment orders through the Spring. Penndel usually misses out on some of these due to late sign ups.

How can I get my money back from the snack stand?
All club members are asked to put in 4 hours of volunteer time in the snack stand. This is broken down by 2 hours of practice and 2 hours of game time. In August the snack stand calendar is made available for parents to select time slots. If your game or practice is rained out or something comes up where you cannot work your time slot it is up to the family to reschedule their time of find someone to work for them. Once your 4 hour committment is satisfied you will receive your $50 deposit back from the stand.

Why don't football players keep their jerseys?
The Penndel football & cheer programs haven't raised their sports fee in years and honestly we don't charge enough to cover our costs. All of Penndel's sports start each year at zero and end the year at zero. Many times we need to fundraise or ask for sponsorships to meet the needs for the season. Game jerseys run $30-$40 per player. In order to keep these sports affordable we've always reused our jerseys and all equipment. We are thinking of ways to change this, but it will only be possible by either having parents sell extra Football Mania tickets or pay for the jerseys entirely.
